The Art of Igniting Curiosity

Dear Parents and Friends of Clarion,

I hope this letter finds everyone well, and that you've had an enjoyable week.

As we enter our Winter break, we also bring Term 1 to a close. It has been a very busy and exciting term at Clarion School, concluding with our student culminations and our Winter concert. As expected, our students were amazing and showcased their talents and learning exceptionally.

Our school also experienced another wonderful National Day event, and I extend my thanks to our staff and parents for their fantastic efforts in planning and facilitating this event. Student well-being continues to be a focus for our school, and this term has seen several wellbeing initiatives, with many more planned for the remainder of the school year.

Our athletic teams remain very active, and our students are experiencing success while also learning valuable life skills as members of a team.

Please find below some general information:

  1. Communication: At Clarion, we employ various tools to maintain direct communication with our parents, including Newsletters, Email, Seesaw, and WhatsApp. Please note that the WhatsApp application is intended for only a one- way communication from the school to home, and not the other way around. We kindly request our parents to save the WhatsApp number to receive messages through this application. Our WhatsApp is: +971 52 341 8832.
  2. Updated Childhood Vaccination: To ensure that we meet the necessary Dubai Health Authority (DHA) requirements and provide a safe environment for all our students, we kindly request you to provide us with an updated copy of your child's vaccination records. This information is vital for our ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of our school community. If you have any questions or require assistance in obtaining this information, please don't hesitate to contact our school nurse Ms. Kristine at kballares@clarionschool.com
  3. Birthday Celebrations: We encourage birthday celebrations; however, certain items such as donuts and birthday cakes with high sugar content, nuts, or frosting cannot be permitted. Your support in adhering to this policy is crucial. Like all schools, we have a diverse student population, some with allergies, and we respect families monitoring their children's refined sugar intake. Consider alternative options such as fruit platters, fruit kebabs, dried fruit without added sugar, and low-fat yogurt parfaits. Kindly check with your child’s homeroom teacher before providing food for celebrations.
  4. Roots and Shoots Program: Clarion school is a contributing member of Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots program. We are delighted to share that our school was featured in the latest newsletter from the Roots and Shoots program. The article, submitted by our Head of Sustainability, Ms. Roisin, highlighted the Bokashi program initiated last school year by two incredible parents, Ms. Nina Carter and Ms. Geovanna Benedicts. You can view the Roots and Shoots newsletter at the following link: https://uae.rootsandshoots.community/wp-content/ uploads/2023/12/here.pdf
  5. Student Drop off and Pick up: Parent access to corridors after 8:05 AM will be limited, effective January 3, 2024. This is for safeguarding reasons and to ensure that classroom instruction is not interrupted.
  6. - Parents and students arriving after 8:00 AM are requested to bring their children to our Atrium area to get a late pass. Our staff members will then escort them to their respective classrooms.

    - Grade 1 – 7 students will still be picked up in the designated areas on the street or courtyard. Early years parents can continue to pick up their children at the classroom door. However, we kindly request that parents do not enter the hallways after 2:55 PM (Monday – Thursday) and 11:55 AM (Fridays) to ensure classroom instruction is not interrupted.

    - Any materials or items for children arriving after 8:05 AM should be dropped off at our Atrium area, and we will ensure they are delivered to the students.

    - Parent ID cards will no longer be able to open the doors entering each phase, effective January 3, 2024.

    6. December 8 Winter Celebration: We concluded the term with a morning of wonderful festive activities, both inside and outside the classroom. As always, thank you to our CPC and staff for their efforts in organizing these activities. It was a great way to conclude Term 1 as we move into the Winter break.

In closing, we wish everyone a wonderful Winter break and look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

    Sincerely,

    Larry
