March 17, 2023

Dear Parents and Friends of Clarion,

Clarion is currently experiencing a busy and exciting time, with several events taking place this week and next. We recently wrapped up an incredible week of culminations, and we look forward to another eventful week before the upcoming Spring break.

Please note that the break will commence on March 27 and conclude on April 7, with students returning to school on April 10.

1. Play Date in the Park Carnival –

The recent event at Clarion was a resounding success, with a high turnout of Clarion families. We deeply value events like these and are committed to providing them in the future. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the CPC for their valuable assistance, as well as to our dedicated staff for organizing engaging activities for our students. Our gratitude also goes out to the parents who showcased their goods and services at our Clarion community market.

Special thanks to Ms. Roisin for her exceptional leadership in planning this event, and to Ms. Iva for organizing an outstanding program on our outdoor stage.

Last but not least, we want to express our gratitude to Ronnie and our hardworking facilities team for their incredible efforts in making this event a memorable one.

2. French Early Years and Grade 1 Culmination –

A fantastic French culmination event was held on our outdoor stage, which highlighted the richness of French language and culture. This remarkable occasion would not have been possible without the support of Ms. Rezlene and our staff, to whom we extend our heartfelt gratitude.

3. Student Progress Reports and Teacher Interviews –

On March 17, student progress reports will be made available for sharing. Additionally, parent-teacher interviews are scheduled to take place on March 21. Parents have already been sent the signup link via Seesaw to facilitate the scheduling of these important meetings.

4. Ramadan Schedule –

Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and spiritual reflection, is anticipated to commence on March 23 and conclude on April 21. In light of this, we have made some adjustments to our student schedule during this period, which are outlined below:

Monday – Thursday – 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Friday – 8:00 AM – 11:45 AM

Please note, there will be no CCI (teacher led activities) activities taking place during this period. However, CCE (led by external vendors) activities will continue to operate as usual -

Monday – Thursday – 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM

Friday – 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

We will share the updated schedule for CCE activities during this period with you shortly.

Also, during this period, students who are not fasting will have a short break to take their meals.

5. Clarion Commons –

We are excited to welcome the Co-founders of Leap, Mr. Jamil Khammu and Mr. Ziad Toqan, as they present on the topic of "Budgeting 101 - How can parents help their children develop better money habits?" through their innovative Savings Streak program. This is an important topic and we invite you to join us for more information and to engage in discussion. Additional information on this event is included in the newsletter. You can sign up for this event by completing the following form: https:// forms.office.com/r/9Vr3B1pjnz

6. Student Council –

The Stuco members organized assemblies for all grade levels on March 13 to inform students about the Clarion Community Garden and its various components. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to our Clarion parents Ms. Geovanna, Ms. Nina, and Ms. Nada, as well as our parents, for their invaluable support in the development of this group and for their direct involvement in various garden projects that have enhanced our classroom experiences.

7. Classroom Hallways –

We kindly request that parents refrain from entering the classroom hallways during the hours of 8:05 AM and 2:55 PM to minimize any potential disruption to our students' learning. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

8. Student Attendance and Lates –

We would like to express our gratitude to all the parents who have supported our efforts to improve student attendance. Thanks to your incredible response, we are very close to achieving our attendance target of 95%, and with your ongoing commitment, we may even surpass it! We have identified a few procedural issues that we will address promptly to further improve our attendance records.

To ensure accurate data, we kindly request the following:

  1. Please notify Poonam at pkadam@clarionschool.com if your child is absent due to illness or a medical appointment.
  2. Please obtain a late slip from the Atrium if your child arrives late to school.

Attendance Facts –

  • Regular attendance at school is positively correlated with academic success. Students who attend school consistently tend to achieve higher levels of academic performance compared to those who have irregular attendance patterns.
  • Being consistently late by just 10 minutes each day can add up to missing 32 hours of valuable instruction time over the course of a school year. Similarly, a student who misses one day of school per week will end up losing approximately 2 months of instruction time in a year.
  • Consistent absenteeism of half a day per week throughout a student's educational journey can result in the loss of a full year's worth of education.
