Dear Parents and Friends of Clarion,

We would like to welcome our new and returning students and families to school on Monday, August 29, 2022.

We are very excited about this school year as we will be introducing some exciting new programs and wonderful additions to our facilities.

1. Facility:

A new design technology area will be completed by the end of September. This area will accommodate Art, Educational Technology and our new Makerspace program. The Makerspace area is a place where students can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge.

The multi-purpose hall is starting to take shape with an expected completion towards the latter end of Term 1. This will be a fabulous facility that can be utilized as a school gymnasium, auditorium and canteen area. As well, we are very happy to announce that the swimming pool will be open this year. It will need to close for a short period of time in October for safety reasons during a specific phase of the multi-purpose hall construction.

2. COVID Protocols:

• Vaccinations: As per KHDA guidelines, parents and visitors will be required to be vaccinated to enter the school. Those parents and visitors who are not vaccinated will need to provide a 48 hour valid negative PCR.
• Masks: The wearing of masks is mandated for students Grade 1 and above and all parents, staff and visitors.

3. Sun Protection and Hydration:

• Please apply sunscreen to your child prior to sending them to school and send them with a hat.
• Send a refillable water bottle and a hat with your child so that we can assure they remain hydrated and protected from the sun throughout the day.

4. Parent Identification Cards:

• Parents are required to wear or present their parent ID card (badges) anytime they enter the school. Please understand that this is for reasons of safeguarding your children. Parents who do not have their ID cards with them, can obtain a visitor pass from security at gate 2 by providing their Emirates ID.
• New parents will be provided with their Clarion ID cards on Monday, August 29, 2022.

5. Morning Arrival:

• Gate 2 (gate by security) will be open for parent and students starting at 7:30 AM.
• Parents are welcome to accompany their children to the hallways outside the classrooms.

Drivers and parents who drop off inside Gate 1, the “Bus Gate”- For new parents, this area is referred to as the “Kiss N Drop” area. You may use the “Kiss N Drop” area to stop briefly and unload your children. Please remember that “Kiss n Drop” is for dropping children not for parking and walking children inside.

6. Student Dismissal and Pickup:

Student will be brought to a designated pickup area where parents can pick them up.

PreK - K2 – Parents pickup children from the classroom

Grades 1 & 2 – Parents pickup children from Clarion Street directly outside the reception area.

Grades 3 & 4 – Parents pickup children from the gymnasium.

Grades 5, 6 & 7 – Parents pickup children in front courtyard inside gate 3.

7. The Parking Lot:

Parking is a careful, safe and slow process. We ask that parents and drivers demonstrate extreme caution in this area.

Clarion school is passionate about protecting our environment and natural resources to ensure we have a better world for our children. As such, a number of initiatives will be introduced this year including an emphasis on recycling and sustainability which will include a sustainability pledge that we will be asking our students, families and staff to commit to (please find the form attached later in the newsletter). The change starts with one person! More information will be shared in the next few weeks.
