The Art of Igniting Curiosity

Dear Parents and Friends of Clarion,

I trust everyone had a fantastic return to school life after our Winter break.

We are excited to announce that our KHDA inspection is scheduled for next week, running from Monday, January 15 to Thursday, January 18.

We believe we are well-prepared as a school and eagerly look forward to this experience and the valuable feedback it will provide. We've addressed the recommendations from our previous inspection, and one point of celebration is our improved student attendance. Last year, it stood at 86%, and with your tremendous support, our current overall student attendance has reached an outstanding 95%. This is a remarkable accomplishment for our Clarion community.

Inspectors will be on-site from 7:30 AM next week, so we ask for your continued support in ensuring students attend and addressing any late arrivals.

Please find below some general information:

1. Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R): We are delighted to share the success of our reading initiative, Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.). The program was introduced to foster a love for reading among our students through carefully planned learning experiences. One of the highlights was D.E.A.R., an activity that encouraged independent reading. Participants enthusiastically dropped everything at a designated time to immerse themselves in a book of their choice. The kickoff event for our D.E.A.R initiative took place on Friday, January 12, with the entire school and many parents participating in a reading session at 8:05 AM on our football field. We are grateful for the amazing response. Moving forward, we will continue to organize similar activities and community reading times, and we hope to have even more parents join us in these enriching experiences.

2. Parent-Teacher Interviews: Thank you to all parents who attended the Term 1 Parent-Teacher Interviews on Wednesday, January 10. Your presence at this crucial event, where we celebrate the success of our students, is greatly appreciated. The school-home relationship is vital to our students' success.

3. Student Drop off and Pick up: Parent access to corridors after 8:05 AM has been limited, effective Tuesday, January 3, 2024. This is for safeguarding reasons and to ensure that classroom instruction is not interrupted.

Parents of students from PreK – Grade 7 can continue to drop off their children at their classrooms before 8:00 AM. We kindly ask that parents leave the corridors by 8:05 AM.

- Parents and students arriving after 8:00 AM are requested to bring their children to our Atrium area to get a late pass. Our staff members will then escort them to their respective classrooms.

- Grade 1 – 7 students will still be picked up in the designated areas on the street or courtyard. Early years parents can continue to pick up their children at the classroom door. However, we kindly request that parents do not enter the hallways after 2:55 PM (Monday – Thursday) and 11:55 AM (Fridays) to ensure classroom instruction is not interrupted.

- Any materials or items for children arriving after 8:05 AM should be dropped off at our Atrium area, and we will ensure they are delivered to the students.

4. Birthday Celebrations: We encourage birthday celebrations; however, certain items such as donuts and birthday cakes with high sugar content, nuts, or frosting cannot be permitted. Your support in adhering to this policy is crucial. Like all schools, we have a diverse student population, some with allergies, and we respect families monitoring their children's refined sugar intake. Consider alternative options such as fruit platters, fruit kebabs, dried fruit without added sugar, and low-fat yogurt parfaits. Kindly check with your child’s homeroom teacher before providing food for celebrations.

I truly appreciate the collective efforts of our students, parents, and staff in making Clarion a vibrant and dynamic learning environment. We have a special community spirit that deserves recognition and celebration.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend, and looking forward to seeing you all on Monday, January 15.

Sincerely,

Larry
